Hey... 6/9 is NOT in simplest form because 6 and 9 have a common factor other than 1. Let's divide by the common factor 3. The answer in simplest form is *2/3 of the bananas*.

Choice A is equivalent to 1/2. Choices B and C are less than 1/2. Choice D is correct.

3. *2/7*

1 whole = 7/7

5/7 + 2/7 = 7/7

4. *2 and 2/3*

This question requires you to subtract 2 and 1/3 from 5. It is quite challenging, so we will review in class!

5. These fractions are equivalent. If you multiply the first fraction by 3/3, you will get the second fraction. Equivalent fractions are fractions that represent the same number.

Subtract to find the difference between the length and the width.

2/8 cup of powder is used for EACH pitcher. If Rose is making 7 pitchers, we must multiply 2/8 by 7. You can also use repeated addition!

There are 9 3's in 29, so the whole number is 9. The remainder is 2, so the numerator is 2. We always keep the denominator the same, so the denominator is 3.

To figure out how much sugar and flour was purchased IN ALL, we should add the amounts. When you add the whole numbers, the sum is 13. When you add the fractions, the sum is 7/10.

10. *13/24*

We cannot add or subtract fractions with unlike denominators. We must create a common denominator. List the multiples of the two denominators. Find the least common multiple.

The LCM is 24. Multiply 7/8 by 3/3, so that the denominator will be 24. Multiply 1/3 by 8/8, so that the denominator will be 24. NOW, we can subtract.
